Chapter 8, Epilogue, Afterword and Sense Build Data are out, Volume 1 is finished.

OSO_v01_289Yup, and there it is. A hurried chain of releases and the volume is done. Links: Chapter 8 ; Epilogue ; Afterword ; Sense Build Data.

I don't know what's ahead, I might go back to slow releases, I might not release anything at all. I might continue OSO or go back to Antimagic... no idea. But for now, I need to get some rest and go back to work.

If some of you are curious why did I add the character introduction colour spread where it is shown, then just a clarification of my illustration policies: The colour illustrations are displayed in the corresponding place of a book, if that is possible. If there are multiple mentions or multiple situations depicted in a single illustration, it's always displayed at the last mention or situation as not to spoil ahead. As such, the spread was shown where it's shown.

I've spend heavy 10 hours on illustrations damn it. The time doubled because I was already tired when I started working on them.

Oh well. See you next time, though I don't know when will that be... I'm taking a rest. Probably. I think.

I sense high potential on Yun...

But, after reading volume1 so many times ... Yun wants her(his) merchandise to be known but s(he) hates over-purchasing his(her) products... so it has limited times to be bought in each kind of item...
=-= , but its ok though . . . im not annoyed at his(her) store policy ... its kinda feels good that a player wants to help balance the game and kinda happy that s(he)'s now part of the potential crafters...

Welp, Still waiting the translations... ^_^

Just Keep it at Your pace Krytyk-sama, but take a rest sometimes...

If there's no Krytyk-sama translating it, there's no OSO which keeps my soul filled at stressful school days XD

WN OSO vl2 is nice though.. but i won't read it after you finished TLing volume 2 of LN... and besides i can't understand japanese(still relying on MT... orz)

A READER MUST BE PATIENT AT ALL TIMES ^^ ...

This series is awesome! Thanks for bringing it to us! Does anyone know if there are any mmo's with setups similiar to this? Anyways does anyone else find how the author pushes the AI's level to be a little fishy? Kinda reminds me of 1/2 Prince towards the end but more along the lines of Yureka...

Well I play archeage open beta and there crafting plays a major role... UT early level its kinda generic tab target rpg...sigh..

      I am waiting for a day where we will have an open world sandbox rpg with meaningful crafting system and a gameplay like vindictus {you know hack and slash and the ability to destroy the terain and use it as a weapon}

      DO I ASK TO MUCH?

A game where crafting is important wouldn't succeed, at least in the North American market (Largest portion of the market). The reason is that people don't want to use time to make things, they want to be able to kill stuff, and find better pieces of equipment rather than making it or they complain that their being forced to do something.

I think the biggest thing is that as a crafter he won't spend as much time hunting with her as she wanted. Instead he's spending time with his new crafting friend who happens to be a woman. She's jealous. Well thats how it seemed to me anyway.

BTW I find it weird that during the first couple of days why Miu or Sei didn't offer to loan him some gold. Seeing how they keep all their money from beta; it would have help him a lot even if it to upgrade some of his gear a little. Miu even said she saved up 300k in chapter 3 or 4. Atleast put in a chat that stated that he doesn't want to be pitied and that he want to earn his own money. Just my two cent.

    1. krytykkrytyk Post author

I'm guessing they believe one has to earn their own. That's a pretty valid stance too.

Moreover, Miu was bitter about the senses he took.

Lol I kind of don't like Miu, shouldn't she be proud that he has found the hidden potential of these skills rather than be bitter?

        1. krytykkrytyk Post author

She doesn't know even half of his discoveries. All she knows is that he found seeds, right? And the fact that he's a high level potion crafter. That's it.

        1. r0nin85

After re-thinking it. I think Miu just wanted to get stronger faster then her brother so that he can depend on her more in-game. Seeing how he always takes care of her in real life out side the game; she wanted to do the same for him in-game. She probably wanted him to ask for her help. That's how I see it. And after finding out that he found a new friend who turns out to be a girl; she did get pretty jelly. I'm sensing a cat fight in the future!!!

Thank you so much for translating OSO. I read the whole volume in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. Keep up the good work but make sure you get your R&R. We are going to need you in tip top shape when you start vol.2. ( which I hope is soon) Anyway, I humbly bow my head to you Krytyk-sama. Your Godspeed translation deserves many thanks. All hail Krytyk!

Firstly, allow me to pay homage to one more talented than I. You sir or madame, are a legend. Secondly, I'm a bit torn. The decent human being and appreciator of your efforts in me wishes for you to get a long, well deserved rest. But then, the leech and worshiper of your translations in me REEEAAALLY wants to see book 2 of OSO because it's SUCH a good read, and I'm nothing if not true to my desires. So I've come up with a solution: We just need to figure out a way for you to translate in your sleep! You get your much needed and well deserved rest, I get my translations, win/win. But all joking aside, get some R&R, you deserve it you stunning human being you, take as much time as you need, but PLEASE don't keep me waiting for too long or I might go crazy and start kidnapping translators and keeping them in my basement, forcing them to translate day-in and day-out, rewarding them with only the bare necessities for survival and occasional glances through a barred window to the outside world... AHEM! Anyway, finally, I'm attempting to learn Japanese, and I was wondering if there was any advice or help I could get off ya, you being a shining example of one who has already traversed the path of the bilingual. Seriously, languages are hard...

For those trying to find a interesting VR novel I suggest going to Amazon and buy the first book for 1$ It's really good and was made in Russia but TLed into English so far 2/5 books are done and #3 will be released on Christmas.

I read both the books. They where free to read during the summer. They are decent enough storywise but have a horrible! english translation. Its like Russian translated by MTL to English and a quick proofread. (Especially Russian idioms gets butchered. Like the one on the space between the pants and the couch determines the amount of money in your backpocket, rofl)

Not sure, I had antimagic in plans, however OSO's gotten a huge popularity not only among the readers but also other folks I hang out with. So there's a huge possibility of OSO being done, strike hammer while its hot or so they say.

      He's only girly bastard :D

Sometimes he gives off a really feminine feeling, occasionally he ends sentences with '-mon' like a damn cutely teenage girl~.

      Reply
      1. Silver

Do guys never use '-mon'? Even it's with close friend/family? And if thats the case does that mean he's sounding really weird to others since he also uses 'ore'?

        Reply
        1. krytykkrytyk Post author

It's not a way to refer to oneself, it's a cutely way to finish sentences and he does that occasionally when doing an inner dialogue with himself. If I were to compare it with anything... well, nothing comes to my mind.

One example would be... if you ever watched Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru then Ai Fuyumi is doing that, especially when she's in super dere-dere mode (try chapter 10 to see (5+ min into the chapter) for example).

It happens in more places but oh well. Anyway, super cutely kind of thing.

          Reply
          1. Silver

Ah sorry for being unclear. I meant how others would feel if he spoke to them using 'ore' (masculine way of speaking) to refer to himself but ending the very same sentance with '-mon' (cutesy). But if it's mainly used in inner dialog that wouldn't be an issue, so thank you.

      2. DarkD

I think you should be including the feminine and masculine versions of the japanese words in this series in particular. The fact that it's a gender bender series makes it incredibly important. Unless you add in the gender specific Japanese words, you're losing a lot of the gender-bender jokes in translation.

Just add a terminology page somewhere that explains what each one means. You'd be surprised, a lot of people already know that "watashi" is the feminine "I" and "ore" is the masculine "I"

Well, saying that 'anything' will happen in volume 2 would be a spoiler.

One of my principles is 'to read the book the way it's meant to be read'. That's why I despise the 'fragmentary' sources of information on what's going to happen ahead. It kills the enjoyment.

Taking away the element of surprise is also a joykill. As a reader myself I know that being surprised by author and the book is also a part of what it takes to enjoy a book.

Does this mean that Yun has 12 pieces of land now? In chapter 6 it said he bought his 5th piece of land, think he bought 4 adjacent fields in chapter 7 for 200k, and finally 3 fields that are adjacent to the fields and the main street for 800k.

Drew the reason is probably because ho pointless the story would be if he just could add on a whole bunch positive effects on items then he would be virtually invulnerable. So with the curse effect it limits how powerful the enchantment are for him/her (for now hehe I wonder how much more powerful he will be when he levels up his enchanting arts and all that other stuff)

    Thanks for the translation!
There's just one thing that has been bothering me; how exactly does the curse enchant work?
I get cursed speed = slow and cursed def = weak def, but it seems like he's using it all over the place, and I'm confused.

    1. krytykkrytyk Post author

Just as you say, it lowers the target's stats. It's same for himself and for the others.

    2. Kildar

I think its based on those Items where you can only have so many points of enchant, ie 1=+1(Speed)+1(Def)-(Mind) or just 1=+1(Speed)
      Hope this helps

I happened to stumble upon your blog after visiting setsuna86's blog, and I would like to take this time to thank you for all your hard work on translating for these novels. A few weeks ago on Fujimi Shobo's website I saw a series titled "Only Sense Online" and immediately I thought of SAO and Log Horizon, but I never thought that this novel would be picked up by a translator. I think I speak for everybody when I say thank you for taking your free time to translate these novels, for the people like myself, who do not have a clue how how to read Japanese, it truly means a lot.

i also found this page a while back and thought it could help reduce your work load, its translation is fairly bad but readable and i thought you could use it as a first step rather than going through everything yourself. Hope it helps
(i know its Google translate but as you only seemed to have the first & second volumes i thought you could use the others)
