Not quite there

Hello, Aorii here for a brief update~

No, Daybreak is still not ready to move onto vol.3 yet. I've been consolidating ideas, but for the most part my last two months have been taken up by real-life issues (mostly: switching job, family visits, etc.). Sadly, that means not much time for looking up artists either...

Nevertheless, my goal is to start vol.3 proper by early June, if for nothing else than to keep Daybreak alive in regards to Baka-Tsuki's project status page ^^'

That being said, I am posting a short update -- something I started months ago and completed purely for fun. It doesn't follow a plot thread or anything. But if you're like me and appeciates random slice-of-life banter that may or may not reflect on some character details, enjoy~!

I would be interested in "guns" in this story (possibly). I wan thinking, if they had a tube with a rune (most likely a wind rune) at the end (the tube is capped on the rune side), they could put an object into the tube, activate the rune, which in return launches the object at a high velocity. Since the projectile is not actually magic (although enchanting it could be beneficial), it could bypass the ether seekers. And from what I read, the runes can store magic, so they could be charged by a runesmith or something, thus allowing people without magic to have a chance in battle. Nevertheless, this is just an idea, it does not need to be implemented.

Placing a rune on an object does give it a magic signature which in turn makes it attract ether seekers. Otherwise ether seekers would be useless against the Northmen's runespam.
The Northmen/Hyperboreans do distribute runes for their non-magic troops (mentioned at times). The southern nations don't do that since they don't have enough runic mages, so they use mass targeting (Legion) spells instead.
I'll need to examine compressed air blast launch as an idea though, thanks; either way such stuff will be discussed next volume...

At the start of the story, didn't it say that only the runesmith himself could use the runes? I'm not sure, I'll reread it. Please help me clarify.

If that were the case, Kaede wouldn't even be able to use her runes =P
Runes are created with a trigger condition. And it is described that whomever knows the trigger condition may potentially be able to use it. Of course that trigger condition could also be made "creator only".

Case example: a ''Smiting'' spell placed inside Kaede's spell-storing rune managed to transfer the yet-to-discharge spell effect to an arrowhead pressed against the rune.
So yes, it can. Bit complicated maybe.

What's the requirements for the illustration? I'm a bit interested. If you don't mind I could send you some of my sample.
