Not cute at all.

New chapter of Daybreak. The exposition chapters of volume 3 are fully over by now. We return to war... which makes this a very odd post to follow "lots of cute is coming".

I blame krytyk =P

That being said, I did not originally plan for action this early until Kadi pestered. But hey, showing is better than telling, so before we discuss the problems of this battlefront I figure we experience the front first. I hope the descriptions plus maps allow you to follow what's going on; if not, don't hesitate to suggest ^^ (I'm also pondering if that central scene lasts too long... mmmh; it did get complicated).

Happy Holidays Release!

kaede pose

A holidays release for Daybreak this year! It comes out now so I don't forget it on the days I spend with family. I'd like to thank all the readers for their support, so this chapter was pressed out faster than usual. I did not skimp out on quality though, don't worry.

Link -- fitting chapter to celebrate Winter Solstice.

I also wish I had some finished artwork, but the artist had his hands full in the past few months and I've lost contact as of late ;_; Here's an example of the last near-completion draft we were working on. I do love the work~

Daybreak Dev Diary #3: on gunpowder and firearms

You saw right! Alpha! Not even beta! xD

So I've decided to break tradition and open a scene to the audience prior to sending it through my lengthy editing and peer review process. The reason? It is one of the most heavily discussed objective topics in Daybreak. I mean, agreeing on subjective topics like gender issues is overrated; no one will know the correct answer until we truly break open the human skull*  and understand exactly what each and every neural pathway does. But on objective topics? It's important that we at least attempt to stay on the same page.

(*Proverbially! no Japanese or Nazi human experimentation! I'm annoyed every time "SCIENCE!" is given as the reason for anything; not funny at all when you've studied history. In fact one of the first things engineering school had forced me to read and discuss was whether Technological Determinism was good or even right. Oppenheimer did quote right after inventing the atomic bomb: "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.")

The topic? Gunpowder, and the development of guns in a high magic setting.

Update, and controversy! Daybreak Dev Diary #2: Let's discuss gender roles and feminism.

Daybreak v3ch5 is out. For you war-fiction fans, sorry no battle. For the rest of you, enjoy as we delve more into worldly differences, macroeconomics, and relationship turbulence.

Also, since many readers have complained about the large cast and trouble remembering them all, I created a list of reoccurring characters for your use. I'm trying to keep it spoiler free while leaving it informative enough to tickle your long-term memory banks. Suggestions for improvement are welcomed, as always.

Now, onto the feminist-yet-anti-feminist rant ^o^ because in many ways, as a genderbender, Daybreak is written in ways precisely because I am tired of the gender-stereotypes pervading media.

We interrupt Krytykal spam for...

I swear Krytyk is actually a robot, out to make everyone else's release schedules look bad =P

Anyhow I've been on a trip out of the country for the last few weeks which is why the latest Daybreak chapter took a while... again. The available chapters in volume 3 are also due for a general edit, except I've been too stressed lately to work on it (sigh).

At any rate, v3ch4 is long and covers a lot of genres, so enjoy =P The chapter title is still pending; I'm still looking for inspirations.
